History
When Kūkai visited this place in 798, he saw two white cranes, a male, and female, which were protecting a 6cm statue of Jizō Bosatsu with their wings. Kūkai carved a 90cm statue of Jizō, put the smaller figure inside and enshrined it as the main deity.[Provided by Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide]
