History

Sekkeiji, Temple 11, and Temple 15 are the only Zen temples that are part of the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Sekkeiji founded as a Shingon temple by Kūkai during the Enryaku period (782-806). During the Tenshō period (1573-1591), a priest named Geppō took over as abbot and changed the temple to the Rinzai Zrn sect. [Provided by Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide]
