History
Gyōki Bosatsu founded Takaoka shrine (former official site) north-west of this temple. Kūkai later divided the five main deities among different sites, but due to the separation of temples and shrines in the 19th century, they were all brought back together to one temple. There are 575 pictures on the ceiling of the Main hall. [Provided by Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide]
