History
In 729, Gyōki founded this temple and Kūkai later changed the temple to Shingon. In 892 the name was changed to Ishiteji (Rock Hand Temple) which comes from the legend of Emon Saburō and a child being born here with a rock in his hand. The grilled mochi that is on sale here is well known and in olden times used to be given out for free to pilgrims. [Provided by Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide]
