Niomon (#84)

History

In 754, Ganjin visited this place on his way to Nara from China and built a sanctuary here. In 815, Kūkai came, carved a sitting statue of Senju Kannon, and built the Main Hall. This mountain was the site of a major battle between the Heike (Taira) and Genji (Minamoto) clans during the 12th century. [Provided by Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide]
