History
Founded in 741. Kūkai later came, carved, enshrined a statue of Senju Kannon. During the 19th century a woman pilgrim was drying her hakui, which had gotten wet in the rain, over a fire, but the flames caught on the pilgrim coat and she burned herself severely. In the past, she had hit her mother-in-law so this was a punishment of her action. She repented of her bad deed and presented the temple with a painting of this incident with the fire. Between the main gate and the Daishi hall there is a statue of a Yonaki (evening/cry) Jizō, which is said to make children stop crying at night. [Provided by Shikoku Japan 88 Route Guide]
